Experience

Sport for development is a concept that is fairly new but becoming increasingly used throughout the developing world. As a vehicle for education, social inclusion, community building, and health awareness it is invaluable. It has truly been a pleasure to be involved with Right To Play this year. I am from London but have previously lived inTokyo and Spain. My passion has always been travelling, and I have been lucky enough to have visited over sixty countries. Travelling also allows me to vent another passion of mine, photography. I am a Masters student in War Studies at King’s College London and at present I am in the midst of writing my thesis on the role sport plays inconflict prevention in Sierra Leone. With Right To Play’s help I was fortunate enough to go there to conduct research earlier this year.

What's your nickname and why?
I don’t have one, but this is an excellent opportunity to get the ball rolling with the nom de plume of my dreams- Capitan.

Where do you go for inspiration?
Second hand book shops, Battersea Park, Stanfords, the beach at Festival Pier, and when money permits, abroad.

First music album you ever purchased?
A real gem- The Beegees, ‘Size isn’t everything’. To anyone who hasn’t bought this album I implore you to continue to resist.

Favourite film and why?
The ‘Three Colours Trilogy’ are the first ones that spring to mind.

Favourite sport?
Football, cycling.

Best personal sporting moment?
Cycling from Cairo to Istanbul.

If you had an open plane ticket, where would you go?
Senegal, just for curiosity’s sake.

If you could only pack three items, what would you take?
My camera, a map, and swingball.
