How to Play a Right To Play Game
Game: Infection Protection Virus Pirate Game
Category: Green Health Ball
Background:
In Right To Play’s Red Ball Child Play Program, each of the five components of enhancing healthy child development and promoting physical activity and fun are symbolized by a ball of a different colour - Red Mind Ball, Black Body Ball, Yellow Spirit Ball, Green Health Ball and Blue Peace Ball.

Activities from the Green Health Ball aim to teach children about:
- infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria;
- anxiety and depression;
- the importance of diet, physical activity, hygiene, sleep, healthy environment;
- and the dangers of tobacco.
Purpose:
To educate children about the role of the immune system in protecting the body from infection.
|
Instructions:
- Select one child to be the ‘virus,’ and another to be the ‘body.’ The remaining children are the ‘immune system.’
- The children representing the immune system join hands and form a big circle around the body. The virus is on the outside.
- The virus tries to touch the body, while the immune system moves around to prevent the virus from touching the body. If the virus touches the body, the body gets sick. The virus and body switch places, and a new virus and body continue.
- The game leader blows the whistle after one minute for the children to switch places if the virus has not yet been touched.
- After finishing the game, the game leader talks to the children about the role of the immune system in preventing disease, and how getting vaccinated would also help.
